ELGIN, Oklahoma -- This last weekend was a stressful one for fire crews.
In one town firefighters are getting a much needed day off. But they know more fires are probably coming.
Fire crews were busy all over south west and south central Oklahoma Sunday.
In Elgin, in Comanche County, fire fighters have been busy beginning Thursday and all through the weekend.
"Yesterday they were pretty much mop ups from the other fires we had, except for one new one we had on Trail Road," said Elgin Fire Chief Mike Baker.
On Trail Road the fires burned about 1200 acres, and flames crept close to homes.
"We had several homes threatened on the Trail Road fire. We had to evacuate about thirty homes," Baker said.
But no homes were damaged.
The 25 members of the Elgin Fire Department are taking a breather Monday, but they know that Tuesday they will be at it again, fighting new fires.
Sunday, more than 50 homes in the Stephens County town of Pernell and the Garvin County town of Velma had to be evacuated.
One home was reported burned in Pernell.
