WARR ACRES, Oklahoma -- A Warr Acres police officer was caught on camera parking in a handicapped spot.

The pictures were taken at the Los Amigos restaurant in Warr Acres. In front of the restaurant there are two handicapped spaces. But on Thursday night week they were both taken. One by a Warr Acres police cruiser.

"It upset me a lot," said Lisa who snapped the pictures, but asked that News 9 not use her last name. "I just really felt like it was a privilege being abused."

Lisa's husband is handicapped. Still she said they rarely park in the spots.

"We just don't feel like we really, really need it as much as other people do," she said.

Lisa said she has nothing against police officers. He brother and dad were both in law enforcement. But said the fact that an officer parked here made it worse.

"I will admit it made me twice as angry as it normally would," Lisa said.

"I'm certainly understandably embarrassed by it," said Warr Acres Police Chief Roger Patty. "It's not what we should be doing. We're here to uphold the law, not be violating it."

Chief Patty kept the pictures and said he will certainly be looking into this further.

"Seeing who's car it is and what the situation is from their point of it. But there's obviously no excuse for it," Chief Patty said.

Last June the minimum fine for parking in handicapped zones went from $150 to $500.
