OKLAHOMA CITY -- All six Oklahoma City police officers placed on administrative leave after a man died in police custody returned to full-duty status Tuesday.
Officer Bradley Dunn pulled over 38-year-old Demetrius Johnson on the evening of Monday, April 4, for driving erratically. Police say after Johnson stopped his car at N.W. 17th Street and St. Clair Ave., he jumped out and tried to run from officers.
Investigators say when Officer Dunn caught up to Johnson, the suspect began fighting with him. Other officers arrived and tried to restrain Johnson. When the suspect did not comply with their orders, officers used tasers on him then applied restraints to control Johnson's legs.
Police say after they took Johnson into custody, they noticed he was unconscious and did not appear to be breathing. Officers called paramedics and took off the restraints so they could perform CPR. Johnson was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The State Medical Examiner is still trying to determine the cause of Johnson's death.
After interviewing all six police officers involved, the Oklahoma City Police Department allowed all of them to return to duty Tuesday.
