Extreme Fire Danger Sunday Despite Some Rain In State

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Despite some beneficial rainfall, parts of Oklahoma are still at risk for wildfires.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Fire warning for western Oklahoma along a line from Alva to Lawton.

On Sunday, a dry line will push into the state bringing extremely strong winds, very low relative humidity and high temperatures. The accompanying cold front could cause an erratic wind shift Sunday afternoon and winds behind the front may gust to near 55 mph.

"Sunday's weather calls for a high probability for a large scale fire outbreak," said George Geissler, Oklahoma State Forester. "We are urging the public to be very careful with any outdoor activity that could start a wildfire, including outdoor grilling. With winds gusting in excess of 40 to 50 mph a wildfire can start if an ember escapes or should the grill blow over."
