OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sustainable: meeting the needs of today without compromising the ability of the next generations to meet their own needs.
An upcoming art show and food challenge will find new ways to build a sustainable community in Oklahoma City.
Good food and fine art will combine in a fundraiser called EVOLVE, set for 7 p.m. on April 23 in Oklahoma City. The Local Food Challenge and juried art show will benefit Sustainable Oklahoma and Individual Artists of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma chefs including Chef Kurt Fleischfresser, Chef Kamala Gamble, Chef Ryan Parrott, and participants Prairie Gypsies, The Wedge and 105Degrees will be challenge to create a signature appetizer or finger food using as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible.
Artists are asked to create original works that speak to their vision of a "sustainable, resilient, and abundant community." The art show is open to all Oklahoma artists. Any media is welcome though the work must have been produced within the last two years.
Three prizes will be awarded, including the People's Choice, a $500 juried grand prize and a runner-up prize of dinner for two at Living Kitchen Farm & Dairy.
The art show continues through May 7 at IAO Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan.
Tickets for the EVOLVE art exhibit and local food challenge are $25 and can be purchased at www.sustainableokc.org.
