OKLAHOMA CITY -- A transformer blew early Friday morning in Oklahoma City, causing some grass to catch fire.

Someone passing by called firefighters just after midnight to report the grassfire west of the Broadway Extension, just north of the Kilpatrick Turnpike. Crews put it out quickly, but the fire just highlights the danger in Oklahoma City and across the state.

The National Weather Service says wildfires may start easily and spread rapidly as another warm, dry and windy day is forecast for parts of Oklahoma.

A fire weather watch remains in effect for Friday for 20 counties in the state's western region. Guymon, Lawton, Weatherford and Woodward are some of the cities included in the watch.

Forecasters say temperatures in the 80s and 90s and southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts are expected in western Oklahoma. Relative humidity will dip into the 10 percent to 15-percent range in the Oklahoma Panhandle and fall to 15 to 20 percent in the other counties.

Oklahoma has been hampered in recent weeks by wind-driven wildfires that have been fueled by lingering drought that has left vegetation dry and dormant.
