OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police have released the name of a man who died after being taken into police custody Monday night, along with new details about what happened.
Just before 7:30, Officer Bradley Dunn pulled over a car near N.W. 17th Street and Saint Clair. Police say the driver, 38-year-old Demetrius Johnson, bailed from the vehicle and ran off.
Officer Dunn and other officers eventually caught up with Johnson, and he began fighting with them. The officers were able to get Johnson under control and placed him in the back of a police car. A short time later, they noticed Johnson was unconscious.
Police then called for paramedics who transported the suspect to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The State Medical Examiner's Office will determine what caused Johnson's death.
Two of the Oklahoma City police officers involved were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officer Dunn, Sgt. Scott Blankenship, Sgt. Bryan Bartels, Officer Joshua Minner, Lt. Trevor Taylor and Sgt. Matthew Morrison have all been placed on administrative leave.
