Doctor Formally Accepts Job As Oklahoma's Chief Medical Examiner

Dr. Eric Pfeifer has formally accepted the position as the new chief medical examiner for the state of Oklahoma.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Dr. Eric Pfeifer has formally accepted the position as the new chief medical examiner for the state of Oklahoma.

The Board of Medicolegal Investigations offered the job to Dr. Pfeifer on Monday. He'll receive a salary of $225,000 per year.

"I've spoken with my family and loved ones, and with gratitude accept the Board's offer to serve as the Chief Medical Examiner for Oklahoma," Dr. Pfeifer wrote in an email to the board.

Dr. Pfeifer worked for 14 years as a forensic pathologist for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He's also served as the Olmstead County medical examiner since 2002.

"Dr. Eric Pfeifer is an experienced and dedicated public servant who will help bring accountability and professionalism to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," said Governor Mary Fallin. "I am pleased he has agreed to serve as our new CME."

Dr. Pfeifer will begin his new job as soon as his medical license is approved in Oklahoma.
