OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man accused of beating his elderly mother has turned himself in to Oklahoma City police.

Officers searched for Darrell Frederick over the weekend after neighbors said he beat his mother in the face with a brick. The woman is in critical condition at an Oklahoma City hospital.

An informant told police they could find Frederick at Marshelle Mitchell's home. The woman, who lives in the same neighborhood, said she was surprised to find police surrounding her home, guns drawn, early Sunday morning.

Mitchell said they were beating on her doors and windows to get her out of the home. Mitchell said she was frightened but opened the front door to find out why police were at her home.

"I unlocked the door, and when I opened the door, two guns was stuck in my face," said Mitchell, about the incident Sunday morning.

She said police put her in a squad car, while they searched her home for Frederick. She told police she saw him walking in the neighborhood before but doesn't know him.

Police later told Mitchell, they had wrong information. She also said, the suspect's brother is an Oklahoma City police officer and thinks that is why officers were aggressive in their search for the suspect.

"Police were thinking, this is one of our boys, we got to look after him, so we got to terrorize these people until we find him," Mitchell said.

Police would not confirm if Frederick's brother is an Oklahoma City police officer. Frederick is booked in the Oklahoma County jail on one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and a domestic abuse charge.
