Delaware County Grandfather Convicted Of Sexually Assaulting A Relative

JAY, Oklahoma -- A Kansas, Oklahoma man is headed to state prison after pleading no contest on charges of lewd molestation, forcible sodomy and attempted rape.

During a court hearing Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 69-year-old Billy Hawpe entered his no contest plea in Delaware County District Court to 3 of six charges.

Court records say as per the agreement, the state dismissed three lewd molestation charges.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office received a complaint in 2009 that Hawpe had sexually assaulted a relative.

The relative told investigators the assaults had started when she was 8 or 9 years old and continued until she was 13.  She said the assaults happened between 30 to 40 times.

The girl said Hawpe warned her to not tell anybody or he would go to jail.

The relative also stated that when the assaults first started she didn't think there was anything wrong because Hawpe was a relative and she loved him.

The judge ordered Hawpe to serve 15 years in state prison.
