NORMAN, Oklahoma -- It took less than an hour for crews to tear down the original O'Connell's Irish Pub & Grille in Norman.

After 42 years, the O'Connell's on Lindsey issued its last call in January. The building was knocked down Tuesday, March 22, to make way for the expansion of OU's athletic facilities.

Crews started the demolition at noon and had all the walls knocked down in 45 minutes.  The owner of O'Connell's invited customers to come to the demolition site and watch as the iconic pub was reduced to a big pile of debris.

"Even though we said goodbye to the Lindsey location two months ago with a spectacular party, the building's demolition is definitely a bittersweet moment for those of us at O'Connell's," said O'Connell's owner Jeff Stewart. "We encourage all of our patrons to join us as we remember the original O'Connell's with a tribute at the site."

O'Connell's has moved all operations to its Campus Corner location at 769 Asp.
