Harrah Baptist Church Reaching Out To Help Wildfire Victims

HARRAH, Oklahoma -- The community of Harrah is pulling their resources together to help people in Choctaw and Harrah whose homes were destroyed during the recent wildfires.

The Harrah First Baptist Church, located at 2185 Church Street, is desperate to help the families by taking in food, monetary donations, and essential house supplies.

Jeannette Coleman has spent the past two days putting together "baskets of love" for wildfire victims.

"These sacks are full of dishes, cups, cleaning supplies, dish rags, pots and pans," said Coleman.

the church has helped a few families with additional clothes and other items.

"When they go out into a permanent place they are going to have to purchase all these items. All the things that you use daily is gone, it was all burned in the fire, so we are just trying to help out," said Coleman.

And Tuesday afternoon they helped the Aaron family, whose home in Harrah went up in flames.

"I just had enough time to go in there and grab my dogs and get out," said Sandra Aaron.

The Aaron family took a basket full of goods and some monetary donations to help in their recovery. The family said they fortunately had insurance, and are currently living with relatives.

"The prayers and help from the church is the reason I have lived in Harrah and will continue to live in Harrah," said Aaron. "I couldn't ask for better neighbors. We could be sleeping under a tree and a tent. Whatever, it doesn't matter because your home and stuff like that can be replaced. Kids and dogs that what matters."

In the meantime the church is encouraging the public to make the victims of the wildfires aware they are here to help.
