OKLAHOMA CITY -- Higher humidity, cooler temperatures and calmer winds are allowing Oklahomans to assess the damage done by wildfires.
Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said Sunday there were no reports of active fires in the state, a stark contrast to Friday when 42 were raging. Ooten says officials are hoping an approaching weather system will dampen the fire threat for the next few days.
Fierce winds, unseasonably warm temperatures and dry conditions contributed to the outbreak, which destroyed at least 30 homes and caused 15 injuries.
In Harrah, east of Oklahoma City, resident Dana Hicks says her family's fears were allayed when they returned to their home Saturday and found only interior smoke damage, a charred lawn and damaged fence.
Hicks says five homes on her street were destroyed.
