OU Dentists Provide Free Dental Care For Low-Income Kids

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry offered free dental care to lower-income children between the ages of 4 and 14 on Saturday.

Kids' Dental Day 2011 was expected to provide about 250 children with oral health care. It's held annually by dentists and dental health professionals across the United States.

"We in the dental profession have an obligation to be involved and give back to the community in which we live," said Dr. Kevin Haney, OU College of Dentistry professor of developmental dentistry.

"Kids' Dental Day and National Children's Dental Health Month provide an important opportunity to help teach children and their parents the importance of maintaining good dental health."

Dental and dental hygiene students, under the supervision of licensed dentists on the College of Dentistry faculty, provided dental care to children who might otherwise go without. The services provided included sealants, cleanings, fillings, oral education and more.
