EDMOND -- Edmond police are looking for three individuals who may be connected with the detonation of an explosive device which startled area residents Wednesday evening.

Residents living near 2104 Creek Circle reported hearing a loud explosion which rattled windows about 6 p.m. Officers were dispatched to investigate and found remnants of what they believe was an explosive device on a creek bank about 100 yards from the homes.

"We know it was very powerful," said Glynda Chu, public information officer with the Edmond Police Department. "It rattled windows a hundred yards away and so a lot of people were aware this happened."

Kathy Bliss said her neighborhood is usually pretty quiet. She managed to get a quick look at the suspects after the explosion.

"I saw three or four teenagers from a distance. They looked like they were 14 to 17 years old. But they were laughing and they all crammed into a car and drove off," Bliss said.

"This is a very serious situation because the type of homemade explosive was so strong it could have seriously injured or even killed the people making the explosive or someone else," Chu said.

Chu said the exact type of the explosive device is under investigation, but it appears it contained hydrogen peroxide. She said the suspects could have peroxide burns on their hands.

"We urge parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of making any type of explosive device," said Chu. "This is really, really dangerous. What they're doing, it could maim them, it could kill them, it could hurt someone else."

Chu said police are looking for three, white male juveniles driving a dark, charcoal gray Ford Taurus. Police are searching Edmond high schools for a vehicle matching that description. Anyone with information on this incident should call Edmond police at (405) 359-4494.
