Heavy Rains Not Enough To End Oklahoma Drought

Thunderstorms with rain and small hail are moving across parts of Oklahoma that have been in a drought.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Heavy thunderstorms that moved across the state Thursday morning will help dry conditions in the state but will not end the state's drought.

No major flooding was reported after Thursday's rainfall. National Weather Service forecaster Daryl Williams in Norman said the rain will "modestly" help parched areas of the state -- but does not end the drought.

He said rainfall amounts of just above an inch were reported in northern Caddo County just southwest of Oklahoma City.

Many counties, including Oklahoma County, have been under a burn ban for the past week.
