Friends Say OKC Family's Survival After Crash In Colorado Is Miracle

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A terrible accident involving an Oklahoma City pastor and his family became an amazing story of survival.

For a second night in a row, Westmoore Community Church members are meeting to pray for Rodney Beavers and his wife Cindi. They are both in serious condition but were responding to doctors Wednesday.

Rodney, his wife and two children were driving in Colorado on their yearly ski trip when a semi-driver lost control of his brakes and hit the family's SUV head-on Monday night. The fact that the family is all alive, friends said is nothing short of a miracle.

Rodney and Cindi were trapped for hours, but their children, 18-year-old Morgan and 12-year-old Preston, walked away with barely a scratch.

"They actually jumped out of the car right after it happened. Preston, the 12-year-old, flagged down the first car he could see. It just so happened it was a woman who just got off work, and she was an EMT," said Paul Cunningham, Westmoore Community Church head pastor.

Cunningham was at the hospital in Denver with Rodney on Wednesday.

He said he's amazed the family survived the horrific crash. Now Rodney and Cindi are in separate hospitals recovering hundreds of miles apart.

"We just fully believe they are going to recover," Cunningham said.

Back at home, everyone else is thinking and praying for the husband and wife to pull through and come home soon.

"We believe that they're going to be OK," said Tanya Secrist, Westmoore Community Church member.

Doctors said cold weather also helped keep the couple alive because the extremely low temperature slowed the bleeding.
