Accident Report Rules Nurse's Death As Hit-And-Run

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A family of a Good Samaritan 34-year-old nurse who was killed while trying help victims involved in a crash along I-35 was shocked to find out an accident report stated she was killed in a hit-and-run.

Tiffany Nicholson was a nurse and mother of a 1-year-old son.

"The report says hit-and-run and they have the driver just labeled unknown," says Stephanie Rodgers, Tiffany's twin sister.

Rodgers, like the rest of Tiffany's family, assumed an SUV on the night of December 8 crashed into a car that ended up hitting and killing Tiffany while she was attending to victims that had been involved in an accident on I-35 near N.W. 10th street. However, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report revealed a semi-truck sideswiped the SUV.

"Basically it was, well the fault lies on a vehicle that nobody really saw, nobody really knows and that just made it harder on us," Rodgers said.

Tiffany's husband Tony Nicholson is convinced the semi-driver that hit the SUV that night is aware of what happened.

"Sure it's possible that they thought they avoided [the accident] because they think they missed it and clipped it with the middle part of the trailer. So it's possible they don't know, but I think it's more like, they did know," Tony said.

Tiffany's family said the driver of that vehicle has hurt them in ways they will never know.

"My whole life has been turned upside down. Now I'm a single father raising my son by himself," Tony said.

And while Tiffany's family said they know they can't change what happened, they are hoping someone who witnessed the accident saw the semi and will come forward.

"We would feel better just knowing more what happened, who was really responsible for this," Rodgers said. "I don't have a minute that goes by that I'm not thinking about her, missing her, or wanting to pick up the phone and call her."

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has not returned calls for comment to see if they are actively searching for the semi-driver. Tiffany's family said as far as they know, the OHP is not actively looking for anyone.
