SAN DIEGO, California -- A 63-year-old Tulsa woman visiting her son in San Diego narrowly escaped injury Wednesday evening when her rental car was struck by a train thanks to directions from the car's GPS.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office says it was dark when the GPS unit directed her to turn left onto what she thought was a street.   But instead of a street, she ended up on railroad tracks and the car got stuck on some gravel.

Deputies say the woman heard the train coming and got out of the rented 2009 Hyundai Accent just before the train struck the rear of the car.

The car sustained major damage, with the trunk area being ripped away by the collision.  The train suffered only minor scrapes.

No one on the San Diego Coast Express Rail "Coaster" commuter train was hurt.
