WASHINGTON -- Congressman James Lankford's chaired his first subcommittee hearing and heard from a metro mayor.

Edmond Mayor Patrice Douglas testified at the hearing Tuesday in D.C.

She said the federal government's unfunded mandates have cost her city millions of dollars. She specifically pointed out requirements to keep storm water records and to undergo homeland security training. She asked Congress to tighten up laws so cities have more money to spend on things they really need.

"We are feeling the pressure right now. Every time we have a federal mandate handed to us, then that is one less thing that I can do that my citizens elected me to do," said Edmond Mayor Patrice Douglas.

Congressman Lankford's also planned to discuss this issue with private businesses and tribes in future hearings.
