My 2 Cents: Dripping Faucets Or Floor Full Of Water

Man, you talk about a helpless feeling. My wife called me just before the 6 p.m. newscast Wednesday to inform me that water was running down the wall from upstairs. I immediately thought of all those warnings we've been putting out about it being pipe busting weather.

Thank goodness for neighbors who can fix anything and are always willing to help.

My neighbor Randy had to dig out the snow around my water meter and had it shut down in a couple of minutes.

I had visions of ripping out sheet rock and pulling up soaked carpets.

And I thought how foolish it is of me to be chintzy about leaving the faucets dripping in this extreme cold. I don't know it just seems wasteful, but you've got get past that.

What's more wasteful: a small trickle of water overnight or a floor full of water from a broken pipe you may not discover until you step in it in your house shoes on your way to the coffee pot tomorrow morning?

Upon further inspection, I don't think it was a broken pipe, but a leaking drain.

But I know this, my faucets will be dripping tonight and I'll smile when I cough up a couple of extra bucks for my water bill.
