OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation took a big step in Multiple Sclerosis research Tuesday. The OMRF announced the opening of its new Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence.
The center will open in March, and will provide care to M.S. patients. It will also conduct research focused on understanding the disease and improving clinical outcomes for people who suffer from it.
"One of my favorite quotes from someone who has M.S. and advocates from her wheelchair, she once said ‘The weakness was not in my body, it was in my silence.' And I think Oklahomans with M.S. are going to hear us getting a lot noisier right now," said Lucy Fraser, National M.S. Society & M.S. patient.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the M.S. Bridge of Oklahoma presented the center with a $500,000 donation.
