Woman Killed By Ex-Boyfriend In Murder-Suicide Previously Filed 2 VPOs

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Police have ruled the deaths of two people found at the Yorkshire Apartments in the 2600 block of N. Glenhaven Drive early Monday evening after a reported shooting as a murder-suicide.

Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said police received several 911 calls at about 4:45 p.m. of shots fired at the Yorkshire Apartments near Reno Avenue and Air Depot Boulevard.

"I heard about seven or eight gunshots and came downstairs to see what's going on and didn't really see nothing until about 15 minutes later, and that's when all the cops and all of that started showing up," said John Leahr, Yorkshire Apartments resident.

Clabes said Patrick Ball, 29, and Amber Wright, 21, were found in a breezeway at the apartment complex.

Witnesses told police Ball chased Wright out of an apartment after some sort of dispute and shot her several times before shooting himself in the chest.

Police found the gun at the scene.

Oklahoma County records show Wright had filed a victim protection order (VPO) against Ball in February 2010 and another one in August 2010. After both VPOs were granted, Wright called police on December 6, 2010, to report a violation. According to a police report, Wright said she received threatening text messages from Ball. The Oklahoma County District Attorney's office filed charges against Ball, who was unable to be found at the time. A warrant for Ball's arrest was filed in the name of Hall instead of Ball on January 11, 2011.

Wright was denied an extension of the VPO on December 9, 2010.

"Domestic violence continues to be a problem and sadly in this case, Ms. Wright did all the correct things in trying to protect herself but it wasn't enough," said Chief Brandon Clabes. "You can't stop this type of crime if someone is determined to carry out an act of violence at this level; however, educating people who are in an abusive relationship is the first step towards help."

Police said Ball and Wright had a 14-month-old daughter together who was at a local daycare at the time of the incident. The child has been taken into protective custody.

A memorial fund for Amber Wright has been set up at any Intrust Bank. Wright's family said the money will be used to help with funeral costs and to help Wright's 14-month-old daughter.
