Governor Fallin's Food Drive Nets 20K Pounds Of Food

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Gov. Mary Fallin says her inaugural food drive generated more than 20,000 pounds of food and $100,000 to help fight hunger in the state.

Fallin made the announcement Wednesday during an event at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Fallin says the food and money raised will be enough to provide nearly 680,000 meals to hungry Oklahomans this year. The food will be distributed to pantries across the state.

Because of the success of this year's event, Fallin says she plans to hold a similar food drive every year.

Food bank officials say more than 15 percent of households in Oklahoma are "food insecure," ranking Oklahoma among the five worst states for hunger.
