Vendor Chosen For Oklahoma Voting System

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The state has chosen an Austin, Texas, company to provide and install Oklahoma's new statewide voting system.

Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said Friday Hart InterCivic, Inc., has won a nearly $16.7 million contract.

The state received five responses from companies interested in providing the new system. Ziriax says Hart InterCivic received the highest overall scores in the evaluation process and also provided the lowest cost.

The new voting system will be installed in time for the 2012 elections. Ziriax says Oklahoma will continue to use paper ballots and scanners, similar to the system the state has used for nearly two decades.

The new system will be paid from funds received over the past several years by the State Election Board through federal Help America Vote Act grants.
