My 2 Cents: New Legislative Business On Capitol Hill

OKLAHOMA CITY -- I don't know about you, but I've taken a break from politics over the past couple of weeks. After the election and the tax cut fight, I just unplugged from it for my own sanity. But every time I think I'm out they drag me back in.

The Republicans in the House have officially launched their bid to repeal, as they call it, the job killing ObamaCare bill. It looks like they will vote on it next Wednesday.

That gives all of those new Congress members, almost all of them Republicans, a whole week to get up and running.

Even if the House passes it, there's no way the repeal will pass the Democratically controlled Senate, or get past President Obama.

Despite what some Republicans are claiming, it is a largely symbolic effort.

Then they'll set about trying cut out the money required to make Obamacare a reality.

The other change I'll be watching is what the Republicans call "cut as you go"--  a play off of the Democrats pay as you go, which said any new spending must be paid for somehow.

Cut as you go means increased spending by the federal government must be covered by a spending cut somewhere else.

That would be a radical change from the way we've been doing business, but I'll have to see it to believe it.
