OKLAHOMA CITY -- A nonprofit government watchdog group says it's disbanding because of fundraising difficulties.

Peter J. Rudy, a spokesman for Oklahomans For Responsible Government, says it will cease operations effective Friday. The group was created in January 2008.

Rudy says the combination of a tough economy and an election cycle that collected millions of dollars in donations "has created a climate where a nonprofit organization finds it hard to raise funds."

One of the group's major projects was the Blueprints for Transparency series, which examined how much information was available to the public on websites of Oklahoma school districts and municipalities.

The group's former executive director, Brian Downs, left in November to become the Oklahoma House's policy director. Rudy says he'll be the editor of the website Oklahoma Watchdog.
