OKC Police Investigate Machete Attack Stemming From Child Custody Dispute

OKLAHOMA CITY – A child custody dispute turned violent Monday afternoon after Oklahoma City police said a man attacked a van full of women and children with a machete.

Officers say a fight broke out Monday afternoon at a gas station near N.W. 10th Street and Council Road between the child's mother and father.

The mother's boyfriend and the father's girlfriend were also involved along with several other men and women.

At some point both sides got into separate vehicles and traveled east on N.W. 10th and that's when the vehicle the father was in ran out of gas in the middle of the street. Police said then someone in the father's vehicle jumped out and swung a machete at the mother's van as it passed by.

Shattered glass injured several people who were treated by EMSA paramedics at the scene.

Police detained several men for nearly an hour before letting all but one of them go. Officers said they were still trying to sort out the details and likely the man who used the machete would be arrested.
