OKLAHOMA CITY -- The rates of murders, rapes and robberies dropped in Oklahoma City during the first six months of 2010 compared to the same period last year.

Data released by the FBI indicates that murders in Oklahoma's largest city fell from 32 to 23, rapes from 171to 165 and robberies from 599 to 499.

The only violent crime category to rise was aggravated assault, which is intent to commit bodily harm. Aggravated assaults increased 12.1 percent during the first six months of the year, giving the city an overall 3.7 percent increase in violent crime.

Violent crime rates in Tulsa, the state's second largest city, dropped by 5.6 percent in the first half of 2010. But the FBI says Tulsa experienced a 40.9 percent jump in robberies during the period.
