OKLAHOMA CITY -- Thousands of Oklahomans lined up early Saturday morning for the Red Andrews Christmas Dinner at the Cox Convention Center.

Volunteers served the free meal to families in need. The late Red Andrews started the annual tradition in 1945. Andrews' niece, Betty McCord, has volunteered every Christmas for the past three decades. She said each year she sees more people show up hungry for a warm meal.

"You can't imagine what it means. It's something else to even be involved in something like this," said McCord. "It's so big. When my uncle had it, it wasn't quite this big. But I was with him all the time and we just sort of grew to be a part of something like this."

All the children who attended the dinner also received free toys and enjoyed a visit with Santa Claus.
