NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The city of Norman has taken extra steps to keep residents safe during the storm season.
Crews have begun installing new outdoor warning sirens across the city. Voters approved a $2.2 million bond issue in March to replace the old sirens. In all, the city will install nearly 70 new sirens.
Norman's warning system will also be expanded to the east around Lake Thunderbird.
The new sirens will be fully installed by the spring of 2011.
