Mid-Del School Bond Fails, Edmond School Bonds Pass In Tuesday Elections

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Voters in the Mid-Del school district failed to pass a nearly $191 million dollar school bond, while three schools bonds in Edmond passed Tuesday.

Unofficial election results showed 2,464 votes (59.63 percent) for the Mid-Del proposal and 1,668 votes (40.37 percent) against it. The bond needed 60 percent of the vote for passage.

"The patrons of the Mid-Del Public Schools have clearly stated that their preference is to maintain existing facilities and, therefore, require the District to reduce expenditures through other means," said Stacey Boyer, director of community relations at Mid-Del schools.

"While all other cost saving strategies will be explored, the reality that 90% of the District's current expenses are directly tied to people indicates that other options are extremely limited."

The $191 million dollar bond would have paid for four new schools in the Mid-Del district.

Voters in Edmond passed three school bonds Tuesday, totaling more than $29 million. The bonds will pay to make improvements at several schools, build a new maintenance facility, buy buses and build an indoor competition swimming pool, among other things.
