BOWLEGS, Oklahoma -- An Asher family gathered Saturday to remember three young lives taken in a fatal car wreck Tuesday night.

But a group of unwelcomed guests who planned to protest the funeral, triggered strong emotions. When word spread that a group from Kansas' Westboro Baptist Church would be protesting at a funeral, a group of bikers said enough was enough.

"When you have a family whose children have been killed and they're grieving and people are coming down and harass them, that's way overboard, that's just too much," said biker Greg Beasley.

The protest was supposed to take place at Bowlegs High School as the family mourned the three young people who were killed in car wreck Tuesday night.

"Anytime a young life is taken it's tough, but when you have three of them at one time, it really takes a toll," said Seminole County Sheriff Shannon Miller.

So to prove there is strength in numbers, police officers from Maud, and sheriff's deputies from Pottawatomie and Seminole County teamed up to protect and serve.

"We're just going to do what we can to maintain peace and order," Miller said.

There was no division here, as those who're notoriously dubbed as outlaws joined forces with those who enforce the law, to make sense of the senseless.

"These people claim to be preachers and people of God but one brother told me 'Judge not and you be judge.' That doesn't make any sense to me," said biker Josh Redwine. "I do understand that God is supposed to be about compassion."

There was compassion and plenty of heart at the funeral, as one family braved the bitter wintry weather to reach out to another in a time of tragedy.

"We're out here to let this family mourn their loss, we're not here for the protest," said biker Kenneth Harris. "We just want to keep them separated, let the family grieve…This is their time."

The protestors were a no show, but to show how dedicated this group was, one biker said she was willing to go to jail Saturday if it meant protecting the Asher family in mourning.
