JENKS, Oklahoma -- Some Green Country students got a surprise music lesson Monday.

Jenks students got to sing with the man who makes the music in "Wicked." Flint Hawes, the Associate Music Director for the show, plays piano and conducts the orchestra during performances.

"I think it's just exciting for them to see that she was a normal kid, in vocal music class that has ended up being a paid professional," said Julie Hester, a vocal music teacher.

Hawes had some good advice for students who want to pursue a career in the industry.

"Don't give up and follow your heart and follow your dream," Hawes said.

Hawes told students what it's like behind the scenes of the musical, telling them about the quick costume changes and how it takes more than 30 people working backstage to help the actors and change the props.

"Wicked" runs through November 28, 2010, at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
