LAWTON, Oklahoma -- In Comanche County, a tie has been broken, and County Commissioner Gail Turner has been elected to another term.

Turner and challenger John Bordelon finished in a dead heat in the November 2 election with 3,891 votes apiece. Both men filed for a recount, which began Wednesday in a Comanche County courtroom.

Gail Turner said the recount finished Thursday, and he ended up the victor by nine votes. The final tally was 3,906 votes for Turner and 3,897 for Bordelon.

In the recount, 21 were counted by hand that had not been counted earlier by the ballot machines.

"We're glad to win," said Turner. "And we appreciate everyone who voted for us."

Had the recount ended in a tie, the winner would have been chosen by drawing a name from a hat.
