Anonymous Letter Reveals Alleged Details in Mother's Murder

OKLAHOMA CITY -- There are new developments in the mysterious murder of an Oklahoma City mother. Anonymous letters sent to Oklahoma City television stations could lead detectives to Julie Mitchell's killer. The 34-year old was found dead inside her home on N.W. 150th Street Tuesday night by one of her stepsons.

Oklahoma City Police Chief Bill Citty is asking reporters not to release the details of those letters because he said it could compromise their chances of catching whoever killed Mitchell.

One of the letters was located in a drainage ditch in northeast Oklahoma City Friday morning. Another letter was located behind a utility pole Thursday night. Whoever wrote the letters then called television stations and told reporters where to find them.

Chief Citty said the letters do contain crucial information to the case.

 "There's information in there that indicates who possible suspects are and some of the details of the homicide," said Chief Citty.

The chief said his detectives were already aware of some of the information outlined in the letter, but there was also information they didn't know and investigators are now following up on those leads.

Meanwhile, the Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Friday that Mitchell died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head.

Her husband, Teddy Mitchell, was out of town at the time of the murder, but police say they're well aware of who he is because of his profession. Chief Citty said the 56-year-old is a bookie and has been the focus of previous gambling investigations.

The chief also hinted that the content of the anonymous letters may be linked to his work.

"It's common knowledge that he was involved in book-making and things like that so the type of people he's associated with and dealt in many cases don't want to be known," said Chief Citty. "It makes sense in a case like this where you do have a lot of contacts and people who are involved in illegal activity who don't want to be known to be involved in illegal activity."

But Chief Citty stressed at this point no one, including Mitchell's husband, is a suspect.

The chief also confirmed computers from inside the home have been seized for evidence and his agency has been in contact with the FBI for information purposes.

Mitchell's one-year-old daughter was also inside the home at the time of her death, but was unharmed. She's now with family members.
