LAWTON, Oklahoma – The election for Comanche County commissioner ended in a tie.
Incumbent County Commissioner Gail Turner, a Democrat, and challenger John Bordelon, a Republican, finished in a dead heat--3891 votes apiece.
"Well, you never know in an election what's really going to happen. You're always undecided what's going to happen," said Turner.
"Well, I wasn't really sure. The feedback I was getting from the voters was kinda mixed. I didn't figure it would be a landslide in either direction," said Bordelon.
Both men have filed for a recount and each paid the $1,200 fee, which will take place next Wednesday. If the recount ends in a tie, the winner's name will be drawn from a hat.
"Me and my family just laughed about it because the probability of that [a tie] is so low that I didn't think it was going to happen," said Bordelon.
"Well, I think me and everybody else in the county, probably everyone in the county, was shocked. And I think one thing it did do for everybody, it shows you that every vote does count," said Turner.
Comanche County has actually had tie votes before, in school board elections for example, but never in a general election.
