OKLAHOMA CITY -- A freeze watch is in effect for much of western, central and northern Oklahoma from late Thursday night through Friday morning.

With a very cool and dry air mass over Oklahoma, along with clear skies and light winds, conditions are setting up for freezing conditions to be possible. Early Friday Morning lows could dip down as low as 28 to 32 degrees. The threat of this freeze could mean damage to vegetation. Temperatures Friday afternoon will rebound into the lower 60s with sunny skies and light winds.

The weekend will continue to be sunny with highs in the 60s and gusty south winds. Parts of Oklahoma are abnormally dry with the lack of rain in October. With the continuing dry conditions, the strong winds out of the south and low humidity, a fire watch has been put in place over western Oklahoma for the weekend. Conditions will be even more favorable for fires on Sunday with winds gusting out of the south over 35 mph.

The persistent dry conditions could come to an end next week with a chance for storms next Wednesday through Friday.
