OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police are investigating the death of an Oklahoma City woman as a homicide. Police said 34-year-old Julie Mitchell's stepson found her body at her home late Tuesday night.

Police said the stepson called authorities out to their home near N.W. 150th Street and Western Avenue. The call first came in as a suicide, but detectives said Mitchell had trauma to her body indicating that she was the victim of homicide.

An exact cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office.

"I know she was left alone here during sometime of the day...I don't think it was a long period of time but I don't have a time frame and that's what the CSI and homicide detectives will be able to narrow down," said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Don Holland.

Officers also said they found a 1-year-old in the home, believed to be Mitchell's new daughter. The baby was likely at the home when Mitchell died. The infant was taken to a hospital to be checked physically. She is said to be doing fine and was released to a family member.

Detectives are now trying to determine what took place that led to Mitchell's death.

"I know she has a husband and he lives here, but we're still really preliminary in the investigation so we've still got a lot of question that need to be answered," Lt. Holland said.

For a brief time around noon, an Air One helicopter hovered over the house but police said there are no suspects or persons of interest at this point.

"We have no suspect identified right now but we certainly want to talk to anyone who may have been a witness to a case," Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said.

News 9 spoke with the victim's family and a relative said they do not know what's going on and understandably, do not want to comment at this time

Anyone with information regarding this case should call the Homicide tip-line at 297-1200.
