My 2 Cents: San Francisco Bill Allows Parents to Vote in School Board Elections

There's one election I doubt you'll hear much about, but I'm curious what voters in San Francisco will do with Proposition D, which would allow any parent or legal guardian with a student in San Francisco schools to vote in School board elections.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- There are a lot of big races we'll be watching Tuesday, including the race for governor, the 5th District in Congress and State Question 744. Of course we'll be following the races that will determine which party controls Congress, but there's one election I doubt you'll hear much about.

I can't even remember when I first came across it, but I'm curious what voters in San Francisco will do with Proposition D.

If it passes it means any parent or legal guardian with a student in San Francisco schools would be allowed to vote in School board elections. That means, people who are not U.S. citizens could vote, illegal immigrants could vote, even those on the verge of being deported could vote, as long as they have a student in the San Francisco School District.

That's amazing to me. People who are breaking the law just by being in this country, now San Francisco is thinking of shelling out extra money to expand school board elections so that they can vote.

It seems "out there" even by San Francisco standards. I'll let you know how it turns out.
