NORMAN, Oklahoma – The number of Oklahomans who died in the Korean War totaled 601. It is a conflict often dubbed "the forgotten war."

But veterans like Harold Mulhausen haven't forgotten.

"It is the forgotten victory," said Mulhausen. "We won the war. Although they're still fighting, we won the war."

Mulhausen, Darrell McArdle and Harold Harvell were among a group of more than 100 Korean War veterans who were honored Monday morning during a ceremony at Norman North High School.

They and several hundred high school students watched a documentary about the experiences of Oklahomans during the war. The Consul General of the Republic of Korea praised the veterans for their sacrifices--an effort, he said, that helped make South Korea the free and prosperous land it is today.
