OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police are looking for the gunman who shot a 47-year-old home repairman during an attempted carjacking near downtown.

It happened Monday afternoon while the victim was working inside a vacant home in the 1100 block of Linwood near Western Avenue.

After he was shot once in the head, the victim stumbled next door to the Schwab Meat Company where he asked employees to call 911.

"He said the man with the gun was still chasing him," said Schwab Meat Company owner Larry Schwab. "I was holding his hand while he was fading in and out. He kept saying the gunman was trying to take his car."

Police said the victim's vehicle was still parked at the home and the gunman likely took off running from the crime scene. The suspect is described as a black male, 170 pounds and is likely between the age of 25 to 30 years old.

The victim told Schwab that this was his first day on the job, straight out of retirement.

"He said 'please tell my wife and my daughter I love them if I die,'" Schwab said.

Police said the victim is recovering in a hospital in stable condition.

At last check police had two men and one woman in the back of police cars at the crime scene, but they didn't say if they were suspects or just persons of interest.
