NORMAN, Oklahoma -- A Purcell woman said a trip to a metro hospital was so "disgusting" that she'll never go back.

Cammy Grede said she checked into the emergency room at Norman Regional Hospital Monday night and was placed into what she describes as a filthy room while she waited for doctors.

"I couldn't believe what I saw," said Grede who used her cell phone camera to document the room's condition. "There was trash everywhere, an unknown pink liquid on the ground and blood smeared all over the bed they wanted me to lay on. I asked to be taken to another room, but they made me stay in there for more than an hour."

Grede said it took five times asking before the staff finally moved her out of the filthy room.

"They said volunteers clean the emergency room, and they didn't have a housekeeping staff," Grede said.

To make matters worse, Grede said she tried to complain to hospital administrators on Tuesday, but no one called her back.

A spokesperson for Norman Regional said the hospital staff and administration is taking the complaint seriously.

"Our goal as a Health System is always to provide a safe and clean environment for our patients, visitors and staff," said Norman Regional spokesperson Kelly Wells. "We are looking in to this concern as well as reviewing our environmental processes and procedures. Health System employees strive to ensure each patient receives top quality and professional care while being treated at any and all of our locations."

Wells could not comment specifically on Grede's situation due to patient privacy laws.

Regarding the complaint, the executive vice president of the Oklahoma Hospital Association said hospitals take these issues very seriously and she encouraged anyone who has any problem with any hospital to go through the complete grievance process, and that usually begins by filing a formal complaint the hospital's administration.
