OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City attorney found his stolen vehicle in a jail parking lot, and the suspected car thief was already behind bars.

The attorney went to the Oklahoma County Detention Center Monday to visit a client. He parked in the east lot and noticed a small SUV that appeared to be the same one stolen from his home a week earlier.

The victim notified deputies inside the jail. Law enforcement staked out the parking lot for nearly two hours to see if the person who stole the SUV would return to the parking lot, but no one arrived.

The victim gave deputies a spare key and documents proving he owned the SUV. When investigators opened the vehicle, they found paperwork inside belonging to 40-year-old David Bryan Crawford.

When deputies searched for Crawford, they discovered he was already in jail. They said Crawford parked the stolen SUV in the jail parking lot October 15 when he went to municipal court. While he was there, Oklahoma City marshals arrested him on charges unrelated to the car theft. Deputies planned to submit additional charges against Crawford for grand larceny of a vehicle.
