DURANT, Oklahoma – A man has been arrested for stealing steaks from a Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy store, stealing other items from a Walmart, attempting to strangle a woman and for obstruction.

According to police, on Thursday a Braum's employee saw James Young Jr. stuff about 10 steaks from the shelves down his pants then leave without paying for them. The employee followed Young out to the parking lot, saw him get into a white Ford Taurus and then drive off, hitting another vehicle on his way out. The employee called police and gave them the car's tag number.

Officers located the suspect vehicle at the registered address. When officers got to the home, they observed Young sitting inside the car parked outside of the home. Officers also observed a plastic Braum's bag on the ground near the vehicle containing several items.

While answering questions from the officer Young stated he got the items from the store and that his name was James Johnson and gave him his birth date. After consulting with dispatch, the officer learned James Johnson had an outstanding warrant so the suspect was arrested.

The officer noted the plastic bag contained packages of Braum's steaks as well as batteries and men's underwear.

The registered owner of the vehicle told the officer that the man's real name was James Young Jr. and that he came to her home before police arrived, threw down his car keys and began to choke her. She said she got away from him and told him to leave.  She said Young then left to go back to the car where officers found him. It is unclear what Young's relationship is with the woman.

The suspect admitted his actual identity was James Young Jr. and that he did know James Johnson, but did not know he had an outstanding warrant.

The officer said Young then became uncooperative. He was later booked into the Bryan County jail on complaints of possession of stolen property, false impersonation, obstructing an officer, domestic abuse by strangulation and two counts of larceny of merchandise by a retailer.
