NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Norman firefighters are trying to prevent another apartment fire like the one that killed two children on Monday.
A four-year-old boy and his one-year-old sister died when fire broke out at the Brooks Apartments in Norman. Several other adults were injured.
Investigators are still looking for a cause, but the children's mother said her apartment did not have a smoke detector, which is why firefighters went door to door Monday making sure each apartment had a working smoke detector.
They installed them where needed and replaced batteries in others. Fire officials said when they're finished, they'll bill the apartment for any expenses.
