OKLAHOMA CITY – An earthquake hit Oklahoma at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday and residents across the state felt it.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey determined the quake had a magnitude of approximately 4.5.  The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude of 4.3. According to Dr. Randy Keller, the director of the Oklahoma Geological Survey, multiple reports of magnitude are due to measurements from different systems.

According to preliminary reports from the geological survey, the quake hit just six miles east of Norman, six miles east, southeast of Hall Park, six miles northeast of Noble and 23 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.

A map on the United States Geological Survey's website shows reports of the quake from as far north as Ponca City and as far south as Marietta. Callers into News 9 also reported feeling the quake in Dallas.

Police are asked people not to call 911 unless individuals have suffered structural damage or injury.

The Oklahoma County sheriff's office said no reports of injuries or damages have come into their offices. EMSA reports, however, two patients suffering from a "fall" needed medical care as a result of the earthquake in the Oklahoma City area.

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett issued the following statement about the earthquake:

"It's obviously extremely unusual for an earthquake of this magnitude to be felt in Oklahoma City. Fortunately, we have no reports of injuries or significant damage. We are awaiting further information but we have no reason to believe this is anything other than merely an interesting event."

Many people have reported feeling the quake across the state:

"I work at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and our desk and computer screens shook, and my husband called from Shawnee and he said it was like a gust of wind and shook our home, and a guy I work with he lives in Shawnee also and his wife said that some windows were broken out in Pottawatomie Co. I also work with a lady from Harrah and she said her husband called and her glass trinkets fell off their shelf and broke."

- Tracy Grasso

"YES! McLoud/Newalla Area. A boom was heard right before it occurred. All in the neighborhood ran out and yelled "Did you feel it"? Surprised that they changed it from a 4.5 to a 4.3 because we all thought that our homes were falling down. It felt like white water rapids!"

- Chantelle Jones

"I felt it in Edmond, OK! I thought there had been an explosion, the house shook for several seconds possibly up to a minute! Interesting feeling for sure!"

- Ashley LaCombe

"Spencer, OK...heard the rumbling, & then the windows started to rattle as the house shook...had a few small boxes fall to the floor...is this crazy??? this is OKLA..."

- Randy J. Cashion

"My whole house was shaking BAD.....I was thinking in my head, I know there's not some sort of Godzilla outside trying to lift my house up! But I did go outside.....my coffee was shaking in the mug!!! We live in Norman, so were not far from the center of it."
