NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The investigation continues into a fire that killed two children at a Norman apartment complex on Monday.

Norman Fire Marshal Fred Henderson said no smoke detector was found in the apartment where the fire started. Henderson also said the mother of the children who died said there was no smoke detector in the apartment when she and her family moved into the Brooks Apartments. If so, that would appear to be a violation of city code.

Alan Jackson has lived in the complex for five years. He said his apartment was equipped with a smoke detector when he moved into the complex. He's not sure if it's working now. He said it may need a battery.

Norman city code requires apartment residents to be responsible for the maintenance of their smoke detectors.
