OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of breast cancer survivors and their friends and family filled Bricktown Friday morning for the Race for the Cure.

Survivor stories filled the streets at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Bricktown Friday morning. One of them was Vickie Welch.

"Oh my gosh, the support, the love, the sense of community here is absolutely amazing," Welch said.

Welch said she was perfectly healthy when she went in for a checkup six years ago. Now with the support of her loved ones, she is a survivor.

"I'm here and I intend to stay here for a long time, and these women are just amazing," Welch said.

There were stories of survival and some of loss. Thousands walked, ran, and sprinted in the annual 5k run in to support the fight against breast cancer.

Trish Hobbs walked to remember her loved ones.

"My sister, they gave her 24 hours, and I was with her for 17 months. She fought really hard, but her tumor was the size of my hand opened when I got there, and it was before she had seen a doctor," Hobbs said.

Hobbs has participated in the Race for the Cure since her sister passed, and she said she will be back every year to show others there is hope.

"Unbelievable, unbelievable, we have to win, and this is the only way we can do it is be together and fight," Hobbs said.
