Hogs And Jalopies Turn Out To Support Oklahoma Law Enforcement

JENKS, Oklahoma -- Motors rumbling; leathers zipped.

Motorcyclists from across Oklahoma wheeled into Jenks Saturday morning in the first annual Hogs And Jalopies Poker Run. While volunteers - many of them off-duty officers - signed up participants and handed out maps, riders chose their first card from the deck outside Los Cabos Restaurant.

The event was a fundraiser for the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Museum and Hall of Fame that will be temporarily housed in Chandler before it finds its final home in Oklahoma City, according to event organizer Major Julie Harris of the Tulsa Police Department.

"It will contain artifacts from across the state from all sorts of law enforcement agencies," Harris said.

"We'll have all kinds of representatives, memorabilia from all the different agencies throughout the years - the history of Oklahoma and Oklahoma law enforcement."

Other poker run participants took off from the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene in the Oklahoma City metro area. Both routes were about 140 miles and met in Chandler after several stops to gather playing cards.

A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the participant with the best poker hand.

Riders included officers from many local law enforcement agencies across the state.

David Turner is an officer with the Tulsa Police Department who was riding in the event with his wife.

"Anything that brings to light what we do, whether it's the museum or just what we do from day to day, and the officers that commit their lives to this job, I support it," he said.
